Unlike a generic .com, a .bd domain requires identity verification, because it is a government-managed country-code namespace. The process is straightforward once you know the sequence.

What is a .bd domain?
A .bd domain is Bangladesh's official country-code top-level domain (ccTLD), operated by BTCL under BTRC guidelines. It signals that a website belongs to a verified Bangladeshi individual or organisation.
Who controls .bd domains?
BTCL (Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited) runs the registry. You register through an accredited reseller such as get.bd, which connects directly to BTCL for instant activation.
What is the difference between .bd and .com.bd?

Why is renewal more expensive than registration?
BTCL sets a lower promotional first-year rate and a higher standard rate for every year after. That is registry pricing, not a reseller markup, and it applies wherever you register. .বাংলা is the exception: it renews at the same price it registers for.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. The price covers registration with BTCL. DNS management is free at get.bd, and there is no separate activation or document-verification fee.

Eligibility and documents

Who can register a .bd domain?
Anyone who can demonstrate a Bangladeshi presence. Individuals verify with an NID or passport; businesses with a trade licence; organisations with a registration certificate; educational institutions with an EIIN or UGC approval.
Can a foreigner register a .bd domain?
Not directly. A foreign individual or company needs a local representative in Bangladesh who provides their own documentation and acts as the registrant contact.
Do I need a trade licence?
For .com.bd and .co.bd, yes. For the direct .bd namespace and several others, a National ID is sufficient.
How long do I have to submit documents?
Three days from registration. The domain is registered and resolving immediately on payment, but it is suspended if valid documents do not arrive within that window.
What happens if my documents are rejected?
The most common causes are a name mismatch between the registrant and the document, an expired trade licence, or a cropped scan. You can resubmit — but the three-day clock keeps running, so correct and re-upload promptly.

How long does registration take?
Your domain is registered the moment payment clears and starts resolving straight away. Document verification then takes 24 to 72 hours on business days, running in parallel.
How many years can I register for?
The direct .bd namespace allows up to 4 years per registration. Every other .bd extension allows up to 10 years. Both renew indefinitely.
Can I transfer my .bd domain to get.bd?
Yes. You need an EPP authorisation code from your current provider and your identity documents. Your remaining registration period carries over and a transfer usually adds another year.
What happens if my domain expires?
It stops resolving immediately — the website goes down and email bounces. There is a grace period during which you can still renew, after which the name can be released and registered by someone else.
Can I change the owner of a .bd domain?
Yes, but because .bd registrants are verified it requires documentation from both the current and the new registrant, and we verify the incoming party as it would a new registration.
