What Is a .bd Domain? A Complete Guide for Bangladesh
What a .bd domain actually is, who runs it, the extensions available, and why it matters for trust and local SEO in Bangladesh.
A .bd domain is the official country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Bangladesh — the digital equivalent of a Bangladeshi address for your website. Just as .uk belongs to the United Kingdom and .in to India, .bd belongs to Bangladesh. If your audience, customers, or organisation are in Bangladesh, a .bd domain signals that you're local, official, and here to stay.
Who manages .bd domains?
The .bd namespace is operated by BTCL (Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited), the national registry, under guidelines issued by the BTRC. Because it's a government-managed ccTLD, registration requires identity verification — you can't register anonymously the way you can with a generic .com. You register through an accredited reseller like get.bd, which connects directly to BTCL for instant activation.
The .bd extensions available
".bd" is actually a family of extensions, each suited to a different type of registrant:
.bd— the short direct namespace (premium)..com.bd— commercial businesses..net.bd— network and technology services..org.bd— organisations and non-profits..edu.bd— educational institutions..gov.bd— government bodies..বাংলা— the Bengali-script namespace.
Plus newer options like .info.bd, .id.bd, .co.bd, .ai.bd, .sch.bd and .tv.bd. See them all with live pricing on our pricing page.
Why a .bd domain matters for your business
1. Local trust
A .bd address tells visitors immediately that you're a genuine Bangladeshi business. For customers deciding who to buy from, that local signal builds confidence — especially for payments, delivery, and support.
2. Better local SEO
Search engines give country-code domains a natural advantage for local results. A .bd domain signals to Google that your site targets users in Bangladesh, helping you rank for local searches over generic .com competitors.
3. Brand protection
Securing your name on .bd and .com.bd stops competitors or squatters from taking your brand's Bangladeshi address.
Key takeaway
A .bd domain is a trust signal first and a technical asset second. It tells Bangladeshi customers you are locally accountable, and it tells search engines which country you serve.
Who can register a .bd domain?
Anyone with a demonstrable Bangladeshi presence. You'll need to submit valid identity documents — an NID or passport for individuals, or a trade licence for a .com.bd business — within 3 days of registration. Foreign entities can register through a local representative. The details are on our documents and policy pages.
How do you get one?
