Policy & Guidelines

Rules governing all .bd and .বাংলা domain registrations, as per BTRC Domain Administration Guidelines (Issued 02-01-2024).

Bangladeshi Presence Required

All registrants must demonstrate a connection to Bangladesh. This is non-negotiable.

Bangladeshi Citizen

Aged 18+ with valid NID or Passport

Registered Business

Company with Trade License or Incorporation

NGO / Trust / Association

Registered with relevant authority

Government Entity

Government or semi-government body

Foreign Entity

Through a lawful local representative with PoA

If Bangladeshi presence is lost, the domain can be suspended and later cancelled if not corrected. Registration grants usage rights, not ownership.

3-Day Document Deadline

All required identity documents must be submitted within 3 days of registration through the client area at my.get.bd.

Failure to submit results in automatic suspension, and your website, email, and all services on the domain will stop working immediately.

You can reactivate a suspended domain by submitting valid documents, subject to verification by get.bd. However, if the domain is cancelled due to missing, false, or outdated documents, no refund will be issued.

Identity & WHOIS Policy

Transparency is mandatory for all .bd domain holders.

No Anonymous Registration

Identity verification is mandatory. Only real, legally authorized representatives are accepted.

No WHOIS Privacy/Proxy

WHOIS proxy and privacy services are not permitted. Your registrant data will be publicly visible.

Data Accuracy

Registration information must be kept true, accurate, and up to date. Changes must be notified promptly.

Data Disclosure

Data may be disclosed to law enforcement, courts, or authorized parties. Registrars protect data under Bangladesh jurisdiction.

Reserved & Prohibited Names

The following domain names cannot be registered under any namespace.

Names restricted or prohibited under Bangladeshi law

Names or abbreviations of Bangladeshi areas, including "Bangladesh"

Direct matches of government agency names

Obscene, offensive, or discriminatory terms

Names deceptively similar to existing namespaces (e.g., "comm.bd")

Names risking DNS security, stability, or integrity

For .বাংলা domains, the label must be in Bengali script only. Latin characters are not allowed.

Suspension vs. Cancellation

Suspension

Reversible

Domain stops resolving. Cannot be transferred. Can be reactivated.

  • Incomplete registration info
  • Documents not submitted in 3 days
  • Registrant info not updated in time
  • Policy non-compliance (non-severe)
  • Public interest concern
  • Court order or legal requirement

Cancellation

Irreversible

Domain permanently removed. No refund issued. No recovery possible.

  • Untrue or fraudulent registration info
  • Registrant not eligible for namespace
  • Illegal use of the domain
  • Reserved name without entitlement
  • Serious DNS security/stability risk
  • Serious public interest threat

Monetization Restrictions

Domain resale, parking for profit, or leasing is prohibited under specific namespaces.

.org.bd .id.bd .edu.bd .sch.bd

Applications solely intended for transfer to another party will also be rejected. Domain parking, cybersquatting, and speculative hoarding are not permitted.

Transfer

  • Written transfer request required
  • Full eligibility documents of new registrant
  • Updated Bangladeshi presence proof
  • Suspended domains cannot be transferred

Correction: Requests accepted within 14 days with proof of original error and updated valid documents.

Renewal

  • Renewal reminders sent before expiration via email
  • Grace period available after expiry, but services will be interrupted
  • Domains not renewed within grace period released for public registration
  • Strongly recommended to renew before expiration

Registrant Responsibilities

By registering a .bd domain, you agree to maintain these ongoing obligations.

Keep registration information true, accurate, and complete at all times
Notify and update any changes to registrant details promptly
Maintain eligibility for the namespace throughout registration period
Cannot rent, lease, or sub-register domain to unrelated parties
Avoid illegal, unlawful, or fraudulent conduct
Respond promptly to verification requests from get.bd, BTCL, or BTRC
Ensure subdomains comply with the same policies as the main domain
Do not allow domain to harm DNS security, stability, or integrity

Declaration: By submitting documents, you confirm all information is true and accurate, eligibility will be maintained, the domain will not be used illegally, and BTRC or registrar may suspend or cancel if violations occur.
